No. General automotive experience, vehicle trading, workshop background, short courses or hobby-level knowledge are not sufficient. A formal technical qualification and documented independent appraisal practice are required.

Three: the engineer path (engineer or master degree plus at least five years of independent appraisal practice), the automotive technician path (at least ten years) and the master craft path (at least ten years). Court experts may be assessed through an individual fast-track review that does not lower the standard.

No. Candidates submit 5–10 anonymised previous appraisals for a quality audit covering structure, technical correctness, calculation logic, photographic documentation and clarity of conclusions. The expected level of technical correctness is at least 85–90 percent.

Yes. Appraisers operate as independent professionals (business activity, B2B or Gewerbe) and hold active professional liability insurance, valid whenever an appraisal, calculation, valuation or technical assessment is issued.

Yes. An expert assessing vehicle safety is expected to have no traffic penalty points, confirmed by their own declaration; on request, the candidate provides a current extract from the relevant national register (such as Flensburg or CEPiK).

Access to a suitable inspection facility. For damage above 1,000 EUR, inspections require a lift or pit, proper lighting and access to the underbody and suspension. Licensed appraisal systems such as Audatex, DAT or Schwacke are required; simplified valuations are not accepted.

Four years. After each cycle, recertification or another defined competence-confirmation procedure is required; otherwise the certificate expires and is no longer shown as valid.

No. Experts focus on technical assessment and technical-legal information directly connected with vehicle damage evaluation. Legal representation, procedural decisions and legal claims remain the responsibility of lawyers, courts, insurers and other competent bodies.
